What does winter taste like to you? Aromatic mulled wine at a Christmas party? A freshly baked tray of mince pies? Well for us, it’s a warm cup of hemp hot chocolate (preferably by an open fire with a good book, but we know that’s pushing it). So we were delighted when Sarah from Sarah’s Cookery shared with us her version of hemp hot chocolate. With just four ingredients – hemp drink, cacao powder, maple syrup and vanilla extract – it’s dairy free, nut-free, 100% vegan friendly and super simple to make. Oh and it’s open to your own interpretation. Want a healthier, dark chocolate drink? Just add more cacao powder and less of the maple. Want a bit more flavour? Add a sprinkle of cinnamon. Sarah says: “I love using hemp milk in this recipe from Good Hemp as it‘s neutral flavour blends seamlessly with the rich cacao powder. This is a great alternative to almond milk for those of you who might have a nut allergy or just want to try something new and equally as delicious!”
Dairy and Nut Free Hemp Hot Chocolate
Combine all the ingredients into a saucepan over high heat, using a whisk to break up any clumps. Keep stirring until smooth and piping hot, then pour into a mug and serve warm.
Top with dairy-free whipped cream and shaved chocolate, if desired. Enjoy!
