What Does CBD Oil Taste Like?
If you’re about to try Pure CBD oil for the first time, you might be curious what it will taste like. Will it be yucky? What are the ways in which you can make it taste better?
On its own, pure CBD tastes earthy and a bit grass-like which you’ll pick up, however CBD oils are mainly made up of a carrier oil which you’ll also be able to taste. We use extra virgin hemp seed oil as we find its light nuttiness offsets the bitterness of CBD. It’s not surprising that the two go well together considering they’re from the same plant – CBD is extracted directly from the leaves and flowers of the hemp plant, whereas the hemp seed oil is made from hemp seed hearts.
Flavoured CBD oils, however, contain chemical or natural flavourings that mask the taste of pure CBD oil. If you’re not sure if you’re up for the full hemp-like experience the first time around, a flavoured version of CBD oil might take your preference.

Different Types, Different Tastes
If you’re experiencing those earthy tones we mentioned above, this means the product is natural and non-toxic – if the oil tastes sweeter or a bit chemical, this can be a sign of artificial flavouring, which we’ll talk more about later.
There are different elements that affect the taste of CBD oil:

Terpenes
Terpenes are a class of aromatic compounds responsible for the characteristic scent of a plant or herb, such as cannabis, pine, and lavender. So far, scientists have identified over 20,000 different types of terpenes, with our favourite hemp plant containing 200 of them. These are responsible for giving CBD its bitter, grassy taste – however are only present in broad and full-spectrum CBD oils. As our range is made up of CBD isolate only, you won’t be getting the terpenes and therefore less of the grassy taste.
The Carrier Oil
The carrier oil that’s used in a CBD oil greatly influences its taste and flavour, too. Hemp seed oil, which Good Hemp’s CBD oil is based on, has light and nutty notes. It also happens to be super rich in omega 3 and contains 40% less saturated fats than olive oil – good for your heart and arteries!
Other carrier oils that can be infused with CBD include coconut oil, which has a subtle tropical taste; avocado oil, which is slightly grassy with a mild avocado flavour; and olive oil, which we’re sure you know the taste of already!
Added Flavourings
Some CBD oils contain added flavourings to make them more palpable to the untrained taste buds. And while some flavouring agents are natural and not harmful to your health, others are artificial and could lead to health issues such as allergic reactions, abdominal pain, diarrhea and vomiting. Make sure to read the small print on the packaging before your first purchase!
