Introducing Good Hemp Original and Extra Virgin Hemp Seed Oil

Most great recipes start with a good culinary oil. Whether to add subtle flavour, prepare a pan or transform a dish, it’s an essential ingredient that could rival salt and pepper on our desert island shopping list. But more than just an ingredient, a good culinary oil can be a source of daily nutrition, something you “take” without washing it down with water. When you think of all the cooking you do with a good culinary oil – from dipping sauces and salad dressings to roasted veg – why wouldn’t you use the healthiest oil out there?

That’s why we’ve spent over 20 years perfecting our Good Hemp culinary oil which we’re relaunching with both Good Hemp Original Oil and Good Hemp Extra Virgin Oil – the highest quality hemp oil you can get. We know, we know. You love olive oil and can’t imagine having anything else. And yes, we’ve seen how good the Italians look. But we believe everything olive oil can do, hemp can do better.

Good Hemp oil is considered one of the world’s healthiest oils –  just ask Jamie Oliver, who drizzled us straight over ice cream. It’s cold-pressed from the hemp seed, (which happens to come from one of the most sustainable plants on the planet) and naturally rich in Omega 3 – just 1 tbsp of Good Hemp Oil contains 94% of your daily recommended intake of Omega 3 (that’s 25 times more than olive oil). It has one of the lowest amounts of saturated fats and the highest content of polyunsaturated fat (that’s the good stuff). Oh and it tastes good too, with a light and nutty flavour.

Good Hemp Extra Virgin Oil

What’s the difference between Good Hemp Original Oil and Good Hemp Extra Virgin Oil?

Our extra virgin hemp oil is the highest quality hemp you can buy, and totally unrefined. That means we just cold-press it once and bottle it up plain and simple. As a result it has a dark green colour, with a stronger nutty taste and a lower smoke point. So while our Good Hemp Oil is perfect for roasting veg (with a smoke point of 180C), our extra virgin is better for dressings, dips and drizzling.

What does it taste like?

Our Good Hemp Original Oil has a light and nutty flavour – we like to describe it as a cross between a sunflower seed and a pine nut. Our Good Hemp Extra Virgin Oil has a stronger nutty hemp taste, which really comes to life in dressings and dips.

Why is Good Hemp Oil so good for you?

Ok, so you know that Good Hemp Oil is cold-pressed from the hemp seed which is naturally packed with Omega 3 and 6. What you might not know is that Good Hemp Oil contains the ideal ratio of Omega 6 to Omega 3 (unlike flaxseed oil which only contains Omega 3) which helps maintain optimum health. It’s also the easiest plant-based form of Omega 3 to metabolise, meaning it’s perfect for vegans and vegetarians not getting their weekly dose of oily fish.

For the real nerds (we’re including ourselves in this group) hemp oil contains both Omega 3 ALA and Omega 3 SDA, which is the more potent form of Omega 3 (and is missing from oils like flaxseed).

Why is it good for the planet?

Good Hemp oil comes from one of the most sustainable plants on the planet. (If you haven’t heard that before, follow us immediately on Instagram). It grows in just four months, without any herbicides or pesticides. As the plant matures and the seed grows, leaf matter falls to the ground and decomposes, replenishing the soil with goodness ready for the next crop. Hemp has the miraculous ability to irrigate itself naturally, which means it requires very little water to grow.

What can I make with it?

Ok so Jamie Oliver drizzled us over ice cream, but that hasn’t exactly caught on. We commonly see our customers enjoying Good Hemp Oil when roasting potatoes, cooking veg, drizzling on salads and soups and dipping with bread. For more ideas see these 8 simple and easy Good Hemp Oil recipes.

Where can I buy it?

Our Good Hemp oil is sold at Waitrose, Sainsbury’s, Ocado, Holland and Barrett and Morrisons.
