5 Easy Ways to Add Hemp Seed Hearts Into Your Diet

How do you like to get hemp into your diet? You can splash our dairy-free milk into your coffee or cereal, add our plant-based proteins in your shakes before you hit the gym, or sprinkle our seeds onto your porridge bowl. One of the easiest ways we like to add hemp into our diet is through one of our most versatile products: Our hemp-seed hearts!

But first, why should I be eating hemp seeds?

Hemp seeds are similar to chia or flax seeds, and they are filled to the brim with nutrients, making them a staple for us! Why you might ask? Hemp seeds are a great source of plant-based protein as they contain all of the 9 essential amino acids our bodies need. By adding a few tablespoons of these superfood seeds into your diet everyday, you can take care of everything from your heart health to upping your intake of muscle-building macronutrients. How to use them:

Here are just 5 ways we like to use hemp seed hearts. If you have any more fantastic ideas, make sure to message us on our Instagram and let us know!

1. Sprinkling them at breakfast

Whether you’re fuelling up with a warm bowl of porridge or trying to feel those summer vibes with a fresh smoothie bowl, you can sprinkle our hemp seeds on top of anything really – even your jam on toast! The hemp seed hearts will add a slight nutty flavour to your breakfast and set you up for the day as they are full of fibre which helps keep you fuller for longer. If you’re feeling even more adventurous, you can whiz our hemp seeds up with some dark chocolate and create a chocolate hemp spread to add a bit of *spice* to your breakfast.

2. Mid-morning snack

We all get those mid-morning snack cravings, and if you’re anything like us you might want a quick and easy snack to keep you going throughout work. Good Hemp have come up with two delicious snack bars which are high in protein and fibre and low in sugar. You can choose between hazelnut and cocoa or peanut flavour, and they are both filled with hemp seed hearts. Higher-fibre foods like our snack bars will keep you feeling fuller for longer as they will take longer to digest!

3. In a protein shake

Are you bored of your usual protein shake? We know one way to jazz it up – any guesses? Yes, that’s right, adding some hemp seed to your shake! These little guys are loaded with protein (with three tablespoons racking up a mighty 9.5 grams – more than a single egg!), plus a healthy dose of fibre, iron, omega-3 fatty acids, magnesium, vitamin B1 and beyond. Talk about fuelling yourself up for the gym! The hemp seeds themselves will add a slightly nutty flavour to your shake and goes perfectly with banana. For the ultimate shake recipe add a sprinkle of hemp seeds, frozen banana, Good Hemp Seed Milk and some oats and blend away.

4. Baking with them

Everyone loves baking and on those cold Sunday evenings, it can bring a little excitement to get a tasty treat in the oven. One of our favourite recipes using the seeds has to be our gluten-free cinnamon and apple muffins – they are *chefs kiss*. These muffins are bound to please even the toughest of crowds, it has the perfect crumbly top and is soft and light inside (exactly how a muffin should be). They are that good you wouldn’t even be able to tell that they are gluten-free, plant-based, and healthier with the addition of Hemp Seed Flour and Hemp Seed Hearts on top.

5. Dinner time

If you’re craving a pizza, our vegan foodie ambassador @MyVeganMinimalist has created a Middle Eastern style pizza. Using hummus as the base, cauliflower as one of the main stars and the hemp seed hearts to add some crunch, it could become one of your go-to meals from now on. This recipe is pretty versatile and if cauliflower isn’t your favourite vegetable, you could add pretty much anything to it, we even like adding some grilled peppers!
